Gluten Free Black Bean Burgers

I’m always on a mission to create recipes that change what people think about healthy food. If you’re weary of any “burger” that doesn’t actually have meat in it, I hope this will change your mind! I promise, you’re not even going to miss the meat here because these Gluten Free Black Bean Burgers are so satisfying. I have a feeling you’ll even go back for seconds, because we sure did.

What Makes These Gluten Free Black Bean Burgers Special?

A lot of the bean burger recipes out there use breadcrumbs as a main ingredient. So, I created my own version using a breadcrumb alternative that’s made with almond flour and therefore both gluten and grain-free.

Also, nobody likes a mushy bean burger, am I right!? To avoid that, we are going to keep some full black beans in there. We also will add in sautéed veggies and a bunch of pantry spices that bring these Gluten Free Black Bean Burgers to the next level.

Lastly, these Gluten Free Black Bean Burgers are oven-baked, which avoids the hassle of pan frying them and also makes them a bit more nutritious. Simply pop them in the oven, set a timer and go enjoy yourself while they’re cooking.

What You Need To Make These Gluten Free Black Bean Burgers

  • Black Beans: Canned black beans, drained and rinsed, make up the bulk of these burgers. Filled with protein & fiber!
  • Shallot: You can also use onion instead.
  • Green Bell Pepper: Bell pepper will give these burgers extra texture and flavor.
  • Garlic: Garlic is a staple seasoning in any savory recipe. I used fresh garlic cloves but you can substitute with garlic powder.
  • Eggs: These will help bind the bean burgers. I have not tried any vegan substitutes, but let me know if you do!
  • Breadcrumb Alternative: I have only tried this using Real Phat Foods Cracker Crumbs although other gluten free alternatives may work also.
  • Cassava Flour: This gluten free and grain free flour will ensure that the burgers are firm enough to form into patties. Gluten free 1:1 or oat flour should work as substitutes.
  • Avocado Oil: This is my preferred cooking oil, but olive oil will work just as well.
  • Cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt & pepper: Spices, galore!
