These Chocolate Tahini Protein Balls make for the best grab-and-go snack or healthy dessert! The texture is so fudgey and irresistible, you likely won’t be able to stop at just one. No cooking involved and made with simple, vegan ingredients. Meal-prep them for a protein-packed sweet treat to have throughout the week.
I’m not a big snacker, but when I do I like to make sure that my snacks are blood-sugar balancing. That means including a mix of healthy fats and protein so that they will keep me fuller for longer. These Chocolate Tahini Protein Balls do all of that! Which means they are nourishing enough for a snack but delicious and decadent enough for dessert.
One of the main ingredients in Chocolate Tahini Protein Balls is of course tahini, which is essentially sesame seed butter and has a nutty and earthy flavor. It pairs perfectly with chocolate! It’s important to use a high-quality tahini like Soom because the texture is smoother and the flavor is so much better (I did a side by side comparison with the Trader Joe’s one and noticed a HUGE difference). If you’re hesitant about tahini, you can also substitute it with a runny, natural nut butter. But I highly encourage you to give it a try…you might be surprised by how much you love it!
What You Need To Make Chocolate Tahini Protein Balls
- Tahini: AKA sesame seed butter. Try substituting with any runny, natural nut/seed butter.
- Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder: I use Nuzest brand and get great results. They have the best vegan protein powders, in my opinion.
- Cacao Powder: Cacao powder is less processed than cocoa powder however they can be used interchangeably in this recipe. Just make sure it’s unsweetened.
- Almond Flour: This gives the balls a little more structure!
- Dairy-Free Milk: Any will work! You can also try substituting for water, although I haven’t tried that.
- Maple Syrup: Just a touch of sweetness.
- Salt: Sometimes a pinch of salt just brings out the flavor so well.
- Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips: Dark chocolate is always my go-to, but go with whatever variety makes your heart happy! Some dairy-free chocolate chip brands that I like are Trader Joe’s, Enjoy Life and Hu.
How Should I Store Chocolate Tahini Protein Balls?
This recipe makes about 8 large protein balls, so I’m sure they won’t last long in your house. But, if you have more self-control than I do or want to double the recipe, then these can be stored in your refrigerator. They get even more dense & fudgey in the fridge! Just place them in an airtight container or reusable bag and pop them in the fridge.
